Jerry L. Dunn, a native of Texas, makes his home in Avondale, Arizona with Lynda, his wife of thirty-nine years. They have two children and three grandchildren.
In 1980, while on vacation in Southern California, the couple had their daughter's silhouette cut by a silhouettist in one of Disneyland's Main Street shops. As Jerry stood and watched the artist at work, he was fascinated by what he saw, and determined that he would learn the art. Since that day Jerry has been cutting silhouettes - though he only became serious about the art of paper cutting ten years ago.
Because of his love for children, Jerry specializes in children's silhouettes, though he welcomes the opportunity to cut a paper portrait of people of all ages. "Children have such character in their faces, and every one is different," says Jerry. "Besides that, you never know what they are going to say, or do. I especially like cutting silhouettes in preschools and churches. It gives me a real strong sense of satisfaction to see the look on people's face when the silhouette is complete and mounted. People always want to know who taught me to cut."
There are many places in Arizona such as Tombstone, Old Tucson and Bisbee that afford great opportunities to cut silhouettes of interesting "cowboy" type characters. In retirement, Jerry and Lynda plan to travel full-time around the United States in their RV, and 'take the show on the road' as they introduce silhouette cutting to those who have never seen it before.
